Build a Family Assistant in n8n: Automated Schedule, Meal & Routine Reminders
Import the n8n template → configure email/messaging credentials → customize family content → set cron triggers → activate automations
- Who
- Parents or household managers with an n8n instance who want to reduce repetitive daily reminders
- You get
- Scheduled emails/Telegram messages for daily schedule, morning/evening checklists, meal ideas, and weekly planning
Constraints
Prerequisites: an active n8n instance (self-hosted or cloud) and configured email credentials (SMTP or Gmail). Template nodes have empty parameters and must be filled in after import.
What they did
Author devgor published the FamilyFlow Assistant template (#4855) in the n8n template library. It is a 36-node home automation workflow using multiple Cron triggers, Set/Code nodes to process family schedules, meal ideas, and positive thoughts, and Email Send / Telegram / Gmail nodes to send reminders to parents. The template is inactive by default and requires users to configure credentials, content, and trigger times after import.
How it went
The template shows 731 views on n8n (author_report). No post-deployment effectiveness or ROI data is provided by the source.
Worth knowing
1) All node parameters in the template are empty objects and must be configured after import or the workflow will not run; 2) The screen-time break reminder is disabled by default and must be enabled manually; 3) Suggested extensions include Google Calendar integration, switching notifiers to Telegram/WhatsApp/Slack, and smart-home triggers, but these are not implemented in the template; 4) This site has not tested the workflow; test a single Cron+Email branch manually before enabling long-term automations.

Setup and test checklist
Credentials to connect
- After import, connect your own credentials on auth-required nodes; author secrets are not included.
Configuration to replace
- Source template is n8n public workflow #4855 (~36 nodes). Keep inactive after import; verify triggers, expressions and external API endpoints.
- Sticky-note guidance is informational; replace placeholders with your own accounts, sheet schemas or channel IDs.
Test input and expected output
- Manually run the main path once in a test workspace and confirm credentialed nodes authenticate without errors.
- Drive one synthetic/redacted sample through and check output fields and downstream writes before enabling in production.
Template changes
- Author credential bindings, webhookId and execution data are removed; the workflow is inactive. Nodes, connections and original prompts are preserved. Not run-tested in n8n.
- No business-logic edits; verify keys, quotas and privacy compliance before use.

Steps
Import the workflow template
In the n8n editor, choose Import and upload the provided workflow.json (or load template #4855 from the n8n library). After import you should see 36 nodes, including multiple Cron triggers, Email Send, Code, Set, Telegram, and Gmail nodes.
Configure sending credentials
Set up email credentials (e.g., SMTP or Gmail OAuth) in all Email Send nodes. Configure Telegram and Gmail credentials separately if you use those nodes. Nodes will error if credentials are missing.
Personalize content and data
Replace placeholder content item by item: 1) Recipient addresses in all Email nodes (e.g., [email protected] → real addresses); 2) "Define Daily Schedules" Set node: enter actual family events; 3) "Generate Meal Idea" Code node: edit the mealIdeas array; 4) "Get Positive Thought/Fact" Code node: update the positive thoughts/fun facts list; 5) Subject and HTML body in each email node to match your family style.
Adjust cron triggers
Open each Cron node and edit the Rule to set the desired time and frequency. For example: weekday mornings for the morning checklist, Sunday evening for weekly planning, evening for bedtime reminders. Match the timezone to your household schedule.
Activate and test
The imported workflow is inactive by default. Toggle the Active switch for the workflow or for individual nodes you want to use. Manually execute Start → the relevant branch first to verify content, recipients, and timing before leaving Cron triggers enabled long-term.
Prompt you can copy
Setup guidance · Editorial suggestion。Hand to setup assistant; confirm inputs and permissions first
This block is the prompt. Ads are never placed here.
You are an n8n setup assistant. The user wants to replicate the "FamilyFlow Assistant" home automation template. First confirm they have: 1) an active n8n instance; 2) email credentials (SMTP/Gmail); 3) optional Telegram Bot credentials. Then guide them through the five steps: import → credentials → content → timing → activate. If the user does not have the workflow.json, offer loading template #4855 directly from the n8n library.
Confirm n8n instance and email credentials before importing; node parameters are empty and must be filled manually.
