Constraints

Prerequisites: a self-hosted or cloud n8n instance; openAiApi and gmailOAuth2 credentials configured. Input is an RSS feed URL; output is a Gmail HTML draft. Costs depend on OpenAI usage and n8n hosting; not specified by source.

What they did

Template author patrikdescodino published an n8n workflow that uses RSS Feed Trigger to poll an AI news feed hourly, passes items through Information Extractor (backed by OpenAI Chat Model) to summarize and optionally translate, then feeds the result into Message a model with a Patrik assistant persona to produce newsletter-style text, and finally saves it as an HTML Gmail draft.

How it went

The source description states the workflow fetches new articles hourly, generates newsletter content, and saves it as Gmail drafts for review. The template has 1704 views on n8n.io as of the fetch date. This is an author report; not tested by this site.

Worth knowing

1. Source prompts contain spelling/grammar errors ('a get information', 'prefer' instead of 'preferred', 'Content si here', 'Asistant'). You may want to correct them in practice, but the original text is preserved here. 2. Default RSS source is artificialintelligence-news.com; for non-English newsletters, explicitly set the target language in Information Extractor systemPromptTemplate. 3. Two separate credentials required: openAiApi for OpenAI calls and gmailOAuth2 for Gmail drafts. 4. The assistant prompt in 'Message a model' is only a placeholder ('Here give your tone of voice!'); replace it with an actual tone example or the output may be inconsistent. 5. Not tested by this site (reproduction=not_tested). Test end-to-end with a single RSS sample before enabling the schedule.

Use “Import from File” in n8n, or copy the JSON and paste it into the editor. Connect your own accounts, then try test data. The template is inactive by default.

Setup and test checklist

Credentials to connect

  • OpenAI Chat Model node: connect OpenAI API credentials.
  • Message a model node: connect OpenAI API credentials.
  • Create a draft node: connect Gmail OAuth2 credentials.

Configuration to replace

  • Source template is n8n public workflow #7264 (~9 nodes). Keep inactive after import; verify triggers, expressions and external API endpoints.
  • Sticky-note guidance is informational; replace placeholders with your own accounts, sheet schemas or channel IDs.

Test input and expected output

  • Manually run the main path once in a test workspace and confirm credentialed nodes authenticate without errors.
  • Drive one synthetic/redacted sample through and check output fields and downstream writes before enabling in production.

Template changes

  • Author credential bindings, webhookId and execution data are removed; the workflow is inactive. Nodes, connections and original prompts are preserved. Not run-tested in n8n.
  • No business-logic edits; verify keys, quotas and privacy compliance before use.

Steps

  1. Configure RSS Feed Trigger

    Add an RSS Feed Trigger node in n8n. Set feedUrl to the RSS feed you want to monitor (default in template: https://www.artificialintelligence-news.com/feed/). Set pollTimes to your preferred schedule; the template uses everyHour, but you can change it to daily or a custom interval.

  2. Configure Information Extractor for summarization

    Add an Information Extractor node and connect it to the RSS Feed Trigger. In the text field, enter the following expression to pass the RSS item title, snippet, and full content:

    Execution prompt · Source text。Information Extractor node text field

    =Snippet: {{ $json['content:encodedSnippet'] }}
    Title: {{ $json.title }}
    Content: {{ $json['content:encoded'] }}
  3. Set extractor system prompt and connect language model

    In Information Extractor options.systemPromptTemplate, set the system prompt that defines output language and summary style. Then connect an OpenAI Chat Model sub-node (lmChatOpenAi) to the Information Extractor ai_languageModel socket; choose gpt-4.1-mini, gpt-4.1, or gpt-4.

    Execution prompt · Source text。Information Extractor → options → systemPromptTemplate

    Your task is a get information from content snippet, and translate it in {your prefer} language.
    Keep it clear and short about what is in content and title.
  4. Configure Message a model to generate newsletter

    Add a Message a model (openAi) node receiving output from Information Extractor. In messages, configure system and assistant roles: the system instruction references extracted data and uses a Patrik assistant persona to create newsletter content; the assistant instruction holds your desired tone. Model options: gpt-4.1-mini, gpt-4.1, or gpt-4.

    Execution prompt · Source text。Message a model → messages → system field

    Your task is get information about article, use assistant role named Patrik to give personalisation and create a newsletter content.
    Content si here:
    {{ $json.output.Content }}

    Execution prompt · Source text。Message a model → messages → assistant field

    Here give your tone of voice!
  5. Configure Gmail Create a draft

    Add a Gmail node, set resource to draft and emailType to html. Keep subject as Newsletter or customize it. Set message to {{ $json.message.content }} to receive content from the previous step. Connect your gmailOAuth2 credential, choose sender and draft folder.

  6. Activate and test the workflow

    Save and activate the workflow. Run a manual test first to verify that a properly formatted HTML draft appears in your Gmail drafts. Once confirmed, keep it active to run on the scheduled interval.

This block is the prompt. Ads are never placed here.

You are setting up an n8n workflow: fetch articles from an RSS feed, extract and summarize them with an AI model, generate newsletter text using a specified persona, and save the result as a Gmail draft. First confirm you have a working n8n instance, openAiApi credentials, and gmailOAuth2 credentials, plus your RSS feed URL. Then configure RSS Feed Trigger, Information Extractor (including systemPromptTemplate), OpenAI Chat Model sub-node, Message a model (with system/assistant messages), and Gmail Create a draft. Test end-to-end with sample data before enabling the schedule.

Replace the RSS URL, language in systemPromptTemplate, tone in Message a model assistant message, and Gmail subject/sender
