- You get
- Receive a formatted email at your chosen time with podcast names, links, and 3-4 paragraph summaries
Constraints
Requires: n8n instance (self-hosted or cloud), free Taddy API key, Google Cloud OAuth2 credentials (Gmail), OpenAI API key. Costs: Taddy free tier (verify current limits), OpenAI Whisper + GPT-4o-mini usage-based, Aspose online audio cutter (third-party, availability unverified).
What they did
Author jay published this workflow on the n8n official template gallery. It fetches daily top podcasts from Apple Podcast Charts via Taddy API, crops audio segments via Aspose online service, transcribes with OpenAI Whisper, summarizes with GPT-4o-mini, and delivers formatted HTML emails via Gmail.
How it went
The template page shows 15,884 views (author_report). The author claims setup takes under 5 minutes, but provides no specific success rate or long-term stability data.
Worth knowing
1) Aspose online audio cutter is a third-party service; its API stability, rate limits, and availability are unverified by this site. 2) Default crop window is 00:08:00–00:24:00; podcasts shorter than 24 minutes or with different structures may yield missing content. 3) Whisper and GPT-4o-mini are billed at standard OpenAI rates; monitor transcription duration and token usage. 4) Taddy API free tier limits may change; consult official docs. 5) Gmail node requires OAuth2 credentials, which involves Google Cloud console steps and may be challenging for beginners. 6) This site has not tested this workflow; reproduction=not_tested.

Setup and test checklist
Credentials to connect
- Gmail node: connect Gmail OAuth2 credentials.
- Whisper Transcribe Audio node: connect OpenAI API credentials.
- Summarize Podcast node: connect OpenAI API credentials.
Configuration to replace
- Source template is n8n public workflow #2433 (~21 nodes). Keep inactive after import; verify triggers, expressions and external API endpoints.
- Sticky-note guidance is informational; replace placeholders with your own accounts, sheet schemas or channel IDs.
Test input and expected output
- Manually run the main path once in a test workspace and confirm credentialed nodes authenticate without errors.
- Drive one synthetic/redacted sample through and check output fields and downstream writes before enabling in production.
Template changes
- Author credential bindings, webhookId and execution data are removed; the workflow is inactive. Nodes, connections and original prompts are preserved. Not run-tested in n8n.
- No business-logic edits; verify keys, quotas and privacy compliance before use.

Steps
Configure trigger and genre
Open the template in n8n. Set the `Schedule` node to your preferred delivery time (default 08:00). In the `Genre` node, set the podcast genre such as TECHNOLOGY, NEWS, ARTS, COMEDY, SPORTS, FICTION, etc. (full list at api.taddy.org).
Fetch and split podcast list
The `TaddyTopDaily` node sends a GraphQL query to api.taddy.org to fetch the top 10 daily podcasts for the selected genre (US region). Enter X-USER-ID and X-API-KEY in the Header parameters. The `Split Out` node then splits the list into individual items for processing.
Execution prompt · Source text。TaddyTopDaily node bodyParameters.query field
query { getTopChartsByGenres( limitPerPage:10, filterByCountry:UNITED_STATES_OF_AMERICA, taddyType:PODCASTEPISODE, genres:PODCASTSERIES_{{ $json.genre }}){ topChartsId podcastEpisodes{ uuid name audioUrl podcastSeries{ uuid name } } } }Download and crop audio
`Download Podcast` fetches the audio file. `Request Audio Crop` uses the Aspose online service to crop audio (default 00:08:00 to 00:24:00, output mp3). `Get Download Link` polls for crop status; `If Downloads Ready` checks readiness; if not ready, `Wait` then retries. Finally `Download Cut MP3` retrieves the cropped file.
Transcribe and summarize
`Whisper Transcribe Audio` calls OpenAI Whisper API (model=whisper-1) to convert audio to text. `Summarize Podcast` calls GPT-4o-mini to summarize the transcript into 3-4 paragraphs of key information, starting with 'This episode focuses on' or 'This episode is about'.
Execution prompt · Source text。Summarize Podcast node prompt.messages[0].content field
=Summarize the major points of the following podcast: {{ $json.text }}. Start your answer by saying 'This episode focuses on', 'This episode is about', etc. Contain your answer to 3-4 paragraphs max, and focus on only key information.Merge and format output
`Final Data` formats each result as JSON with podcast name, episode name, URL, and summary. `Merge Results` aggregates all items via a Code node. `HTML` renders a styled table email with Podcast / Episode / Summary columns.
Send email
The `Gmail` node sends the HTML content to your inbox. Enter the recipient address in the node and configure gmailOAuth2 credentials (using your Google Cloud client_secret.json). Email subject is 'Podcast Review'. [First-test safety] Before the first test, disconnect the Gmail node or replace the Schedule trigger with a Test Workflow node so no email is sent; reconnect Gmail and enter a real recipient only after the flow looks correct.
Prompt you can copy
Setup guidance · Editorial suggestion。Setup assistant: confirm inputs and permissions before building
This block is the prompt. Ads are never placed here.
You are an n8n workflow setup assistant. The user wants to recreate the 'Daily Podcast Summary Auto-Email' template. Assist in this order: 1) Confirm the user has an n8n instance, Taddy API key, Google Cloud OAuth2 credentials, and OpenAI API key; 2) Guide importing workflow.json or installing from the template library; 3) Check credentials and parameters node by node, especially X-USER-ID/X-API-KEY, genre value, gmailOAuth2 recipient, and Schedule time; 4) Suggest replacing Schedule with Test Workflow for initial testing; 5) Warn about Aspose cutter availability and OpenAI costs. Do not execute any API calls that may incur charges on behalf of the user.
Before building, confirm you have a Taddy developer account and API key; the Gmail node requires Google Cloud OAuth2 credentials, not password login.
