n8n Automated Competitor Pricing Monitor with Bright Data MCP & OpenAI
Scheduled trigger → set target URL → read historical prices → AI agent scrapes and structures pricing → compare changes → conditionally update Google Sheets
- Who
- Product, sales, or marketing teams tracking competitor pricing changes; users with some n8n experience
- You get
- Automatically scrape competitor pricing pages on a schedule and update the tracking sheet only when prices change, reducing manual checks and information overload
- You need
- n8n · google-sheets
Constraints
Requires a self-hosted n8n instance with community node support. Prerequisites: OpenAI API key, Bright Data MCP credentials, Google Sheets OAuth2 authorization. Prepare a Google Sheet with columns for plans 1–4 names, prices, and key features as a historical baseline.
What they did
Author Yaron Been published this workflow template in the n8n official template gallery, demonstrating how to combine Bright Data MCP proxy, OpenAI AI Agent, and Google Sheets for automated competitor pricing scraping and change detection. The template includes complete node wiring, structured output parser, and conditional update logic.
How it went
The template has received over 23,000 views on n8n (author_report). The author states the workflow enables intelligent pricing extraction without code, adapting automatically even if the target website layout changes slightly.
Worth knowing
This workflow contains community nodes compatible only with self-hosted n8n, not n8n Cloud. Bright Data MCP requires a separate subscription and credential setup. The Google Sheet column structure must be pre-named to match template fields (1 Plan, 1 Pricing, etc.) or mapping will fail. The IF node condition 2 (2 Pricing) in the original workflow.json appears to have a typo: an extra trailing '1' in the rightValue expression (plans[1].price}}1) — review and correct before running. This site has not imported or executed the workflow; the above limitations are unverified by direct testing.

Setup and test checklist
Credentials to connect
- 🧠 OpenAI: LLM Brain node: connect OpenAI API credentials.
- MCP Client to Scrape as markdown node: connect mcpClientApi credentials.
- Retrieve Pricing data node: connect Google Sheets OAuth2 credentials.
- Update google sheet node: connect Google Sheets OAuth2 credentials.
- OpenAI Chat Model node: connect OpenAI API credentials.
Configuration to replace
- Source template is n8n public workflow #5948 (~18 nodes). Keep inactive after import; verify triggers, expressions and external API endpoints.
- Sticky-note guidance is informational; replace placeholders with your own accounts, sheet schemas or channel IDs.
Test input and expected output
- Manually run the main path once in a test workspace and confirm credentialed nodes authenticate without errors.
- Drive one synthetic/redacted sample through and check output fields and downstream writes before enabling in production.
Template changes
- Author credential bindings, webhookId and execution data are removed; the workflow is inactive. Nodes, connections and original prompts are preserved. Not run-tested in n8n.
- No business-logic edits; verify keys, quotas and privacy compliance before use.

Steps
Configure trigger and target parameters
Import the workflow JSON into n8n. Add a Schedule Trigger node and set the check interval (e.g., daily at 9 AM). Add a Set node and define a url field in assignments (default example: https://clickup.com/pricing), which can be replaced with another competitor pricing page URL.
Retrieve historical pricing data
Add a Google Sheets node (Read mode) and connect an authorized Google account. Specify the documentId and sheetName (e.g., Sheet1). This node fetches saved historical prices for plans 1–4 from the sheet to serve as the comparison baseline.
AI agent scrapes and structures pricing
Add an AI Agent node with promptType set to define and paste the prompt. Connect an MCP Client Tool node (tool name scrape_as_markdown, credential type mcpClientApi) as the agent tool to fetch page markdown via Bright Data proxy. Connect the OpenAI LLM Brain (gpt-4o-mini) as the language model. Add a Structured Output Parser sub-node with a jsonSchemaExample defining a plans array where each item has plan_name, price, and key_features. Auto-fixing Output Parser handles format recovery.
Execution prompt · Source text。AI Agent node text field (promptType=define)
=Scrape Plan name and pricing from the url below url: {{ $('🛠️ Set Search Parameters').item.json.url }}Compare price changes
Add an IF node (typeVersion 2.2) with 4 AND conditions comparing Retrieve Pricing data output fields '1 Pricing' through '4 Pricing' against AI agent output output.plans[0].price through plans[3].price. If all match, route to the false branch; if any differ, route to the true branch to trigger an update.
Conditionally update Google Sheets
After the IF true branch, add a Google Sheets node (Update mode, mappingMode=defineBelow, matchingColumns=["row_number"], row_number fixed to 2). Map AI agent outputs to columns: 1–4 Plan, 1–4 Pricing, 1–4 Key Features. Ensure row 2 in the sheet exists with corresponding column headers.
Prompt you can copy

This block is the prompt. Ads are never placed here.
You are an n8n workflow setup assistant. The user wants to replicate a competitor pricing monitor. Assist in this order: 1) Confirm the user has self-hosted n8n with community node support; 2) Verify that OpenAI, Bright Data MCP, and Google Sheets OAuth2 credentials are configured; 3) Guide importing the workflow JSON and replacing the target URL in the Set node; 4) Explain the required Google Sheet column structure (1–4 Plan / Pricing / Key Features) and data row 2; 5) Note that the AI Agent prompt is embedded and works without changes, but can be fine-tuned for other target sites. Do not send any API requests or real credentials on behalf of the user.
Paste into the setup assistant's first turn and check prerequisites before configuring.
