n8n · airtable

Constraints

Requires an accessible n8n instance (cloud or self-hosted) and three credentials: httpHeaderAuth for Dumpling AI, openAiApi for OpenAI, and airtableTokenApi for Airtable. You also need a YouTube channel RSS feed URL (can be generated via rss.app or similar) and an Airtable base/table with fields: Title, summary, podcast transcript. Execution order: RSS trigger → HTTP request for transcript → OpenAI processing → Airtable create record.

What they did

Template author yang published an n8n workflow that monitors a YouTube channel via RSS, extracts transcripts using Dumpling AI's get-youtube-transcript endpoint, processes them through GPT-4o to clean text, label speakers, remove filler words, and generate a title and summary, then writes the structured data to Airtable. The template includes complete node configurations, connections, and parameter examples.

How it went

The template is listed as published on n8n.io with 5,892 views at time of collection. The author states that this automation repurposes video content into audio-friendly formats, reducing production time and increasing cross-platform output. This site has not independently verified runtime behavior.

Worth knowing

1. The RSS feed URL in the source (rss.app example) must be replaced with an actual channel feed or the trigger will not fire on real videos. 2. Dumpling AI is a third-party service requiring separate registration and API key; its uptime and pricing are outside the template documentation. 3. The Airtable base, table, and field names must be created by the user; the cachedResultUrl and cachedResultName in the template are author-environment examples and usually need re-selection after import. 4. Credential IDs in workflow.json are placeholders (credential-id); real credentials must be configured in n8n Credentials after import. 5. The template does not handle multilingual videos; preferredLanguage is hardcoded to "en" in the HTTP Request node's jsonBody and must be changed for other languages. 6. This site has not performed reproduction testing; start with a single manual run to verify Airtable field mapping and JSON parsing before enabling automatic polling.

n8n workflow template

Structure checked · Not run-tested

Use “Import from File” in n8n, or copy the JSON and paste it into the editor. Connect your own accounts, then try test data. The template is inactive by default.

Setup and test checklist

Credentials to connect

  • Get Transcript from YouTube Video using Dumpling AI node: connect HTTP Header Auth credentials.
  • Transform Transcript into Podcast Script using GPT-4o node: connect OpenAI API credentials.
  • Save Podcast Script and Metadata to Airtable node: connect Airtable credentials.

Configuration to replace

  • Source template is n8n public workflow #4887 (~5 nodes). Keep inactive after import; verify triggers, expressions and external API endpoints.
  • Sticky-note guidance is informational; replace placeholders with your own accounts, sheet schemas or channel IDs.

Test input and expected output

  • Manually run the main path once in a test workspace and confirm credentialed nodes authenticate without errors.
  • Drive one synthetic/redacted sample through and check output fields and downstream writes before enabling in production.

Template changes

  • Author credential bindings, webhookId and execution data are removed; the workflow is inactive. Nodes, connections and original prompts are preserved. Not run-tested in n8n.
  • No business-logic edits; verify keys, quotas and privacy compliance before use.

Steps

  1. Configure RSS trigger to watch for new videos

    Add an RSS Feed Trigger node in n8n and enter the target YouTube channel RSS URL. The source example uses https://rss.app/feeds/Vw076Uzh7bIinpci.xml (replace with your actual feed), with poll interval set to every minute. Once saved, the workflow starts automatically when a new video is published.

  2. Get YouTube transcript via Dumpling AI

    Add an HTTP Request node, set method to POST, and URL to https://app.dumplingai.com/api/v1/get-youtube-transcript. In the JSON Body, pass {"videoUrl": "{{ $json.link }}", "preferredLanguage": "en"}, where videoUrl is dynamically taken from the RSS trigger's link field. Set authentication to genericCredentialType → httpHeaderAuth, and configure your Dumpling AI API Key in n8n Credentials beforehand.

  3. Generate structured podcast script with GPT-4o

    Add an OpenAI node, select model chatgpt-4o-latest (or an available GPT-4o variant), and enable JSON Output. Configure two messages: a system message with instructions for cleaning, speaker labeling, filler-word removal, title extraction, and summary; and a user message passing the transcript from the previous step. The node returns a JSON with title, cleaned_transcript, and summary.

    Instructions:
    You are a professional transcript editor and podcast summarizer. For the transcript below, complete these tasks:

    Label each speaker (e.g., Speaker 1:) and remove all filler words such as "um," "uh," "you know," "like," "basically," "actually," "so."

    Combine the cleaned speaker labels and their text into one single string, clearly formatted.

    Summarize the key points of the conversation in 2–4 concise sentences.

    Extract or infer a short, relevant title based on the content.

    Return your response strictly in the following JSON format:
    {
      "title": "Relevant podcast title here",
      "cleaned_transcript": "Speaker 1: Cleaned text. Speaker 2: Cleaned text. (Continue in this format.)",
      "summary": "Concise summary of the key points here."
    }

    Here’s the transcript:{{ $json.transcript }}
  4. Save results to Airtable

    Add an Airtable node, set operation to Create. Select the configured airtableTokenApi credential, specify the target base and table (the example uses base 'Testing n8n' and table 'podcast'). Map three columns: Title ← {{ $json.message.content.title }}, summary ← {{ $json.message.content.summary }}, podcast transcript ← {{ $json.message.content.cleaned_transcript }}. After execution, review, edit, or export the script from Airtable.

Setup guidance · Editorial suggestion。Setup assistant: confirm inputs and permissions before guiding import or manual configuration

This block is the prompt. Ads are never placed here.

You are a setup assistant familiar with n8n and podcast production workflows. The user wants to replicate the "Auto-create podcast from YouTube transcript" template. First confirm whether the user has: 1) an accessible n8n instance, 2) API credentials for Dumpling AI, OpenAI, and Airtable, 3) a YouTube channel RSS URL, and 4) an Airtable base/table with the required fields. If ready, guide them to import workflow.json or build the nodes manually, and remind them to replace the example RSS URL with a real one.

Paste workflow.json into n8n's Import from File for quick setup; if building manually, carefully match the OpenAI node's system/user messages and Airtable field mappings.
