Constraints

Requires iPhone 15 Pro or later (Action Button required), iOS 18+, Grok Bot app v1.16+, an X subscription plan that includes Grok Bot (Premium $30/mo, Super $100/mo, Ultra $200/mo), or the 7-day free trial. Grok Bot is in beta; verify important information manually.

What they did

Author ayushsainime demonstrated in an X Article how to start from scratch, create a dedicated 'Morning Brief' Bot in Grok Bot, connect Gmail, Google Calendar, and Slack, send a persona prompt, bind Grok Bot voice chat to the iPhone Action Button for one-press hands-free briefs, and described an optional scheduled routine.

How it went

Author reported that since October 19, Grok Bot supports Action Button voice chat, enabling press-and-hold spoken briefs; the routine feature can auto-prepare briefs on weekdays (author_report, unverified).

Worth knowing

1) Grok Bot is in beta; verify important answers before acting. 2) A new routine waits for its first scheduled time; changing or testing a routine schedule currently requires the desktop app. 3) Every run consumes plan usage. 4) Approval cards expire after about 10 minutes. 5) Never send passwords or one-time codes in chat. 6) Tagging @bot on X is not yet available in Australia, the UK, the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, or Norway (mentioned in source as known limitation, not part of this workflow).

Steps

  1. Install Grok Bot and sign in

Search for Grok Bot in the iPhone App Store and install it (free download, with in-app purchases). Open the app and tap Log In or Sign Up. Finish signing in in the browser window that opens, then return to the app. Grok Bot uses a Cursor account; there is no separate Grok Bot login. If the App Store shows Update, update to v1.16 or later.

  2. Create a Bot for your brief

On the Grok Bot home screen, tap +, choose New Bot, and name it Morning Brief (or any name you will recognize). To change the name or picture later, tap the Bot's name at the top of its chat.

  3. Safety tip

Safety tip: before the bot changes an account, grants access, or connects an external service, confirm the permission scope.

  4. Connect your email, calendar and Slack

Tap your avatar at the top left → Connect apps. Pick an app such as Gmail, Google Calendar, or Slack, tap Add, and complete authorization in your browser. Note: Gmail connects one mailbox at a time; a connected app is available to every Bot on your account; app permissions are limited to what your own account can already do.

  5. Send the morning brief persona prompt

Open your Morning Brief Bot and send the following prompt as one message (edit anything you like):

Execution prompt · Source text。Send as the first message in the Morning Brief Bot chat to set persistent behavior rules

You are my morning brief Bot. When I ask for my morning brief, check today's calendar, my recent important email and Slack messages, open follow-ups, and my current priorities.

    Give me:
    1. My top 3 priorities for today
    2. The meetings I need to prepare for, and what to prepare
    3. Anything overdue or blocked
    4. One recommended first action

Keep it under 2 minutes when spoken. Put anything time-sensitive first.
Never send, reply to, accept or decline anything without asking me first.
Remember these rules for every future brief.
  6. Put Grok Bot on the Action Button

On your iPhone, go to Settings → Action Button. Swipe through the options until you reach Shortcut. Tap Choose a Shortcut, find Grok Bot, and pick Start Voice Chat. The Action Button is the small button on the upper left side of the iPhone, above the volume buttons.

  7. Get your brief every morning

Press and hold the Action Button to start a voice chat with Grok Bot, then say the trigger phrase. The Bot speaks back and keeps listening until you hang up, so you can ask follow-up questions. After hanging up, a Voice chat card in the chat keeps the full transcript. Test it once: if the button opens a different Bot from your Morning Brief Bot, send the rules from Step 4 to that Bot too.

    Give me my morning brief.
  8. Optional: schedule the brief without pressing anything

Send the routine trigger phrase in the Bot chat, or on iPhone open the Bot's profile and tap Add routine under Routines. Notes: the brief arrives in the Bot's chat—turn on Notifications for the Bot (tap its name at the top of the chat); schedules use the Bot settings time zone; a new routine waits for its first scheduled time and does not run when created; changing or testing a routine schedule currently needs the desktop app; every run uses some of your plan's usage.

Every weekday at 7:30 AM, prepare my morning brief in this chat.
