You get
One-page phone-readable brief every day at 8:19 AM ET with top item, draft ideas, viral analysis, open-source finds, and bookmark review
You need
Grok Bot

Constraints

Requires Grok Bot access and X API (author used ~$8 of free credit). Set up two bots: X Brief (morning brief writer) and X Researcher (overnight fact-checker). Maintain three separate source groups (Brief sources / Virality watchlist / Analytics), two memory files (seen.md / open-source.csv), and follow read-only rules.

What they did

Source: author MilesKetcham's own report. He covers AI agents, AI trading bots, prediction-market bots and one-person AI companies. Due to fast-moving beats full of recycled claims, he built a read-only X research desk starting Oct 10, 2026.

How it went

Author report: as of post date, 10 briefs written, 318 post links logged to prevent duplicates, 25 open-source repos saved. First run cost ~$0.75; entire desk runs on ~$8 of free X API credit.

Worth knowing

1. Author states 'the prompt card is in the post above,' but Scout did not capture the full prompt text; this case delivers desk rules and brief structure. 2. X API free credit terms may change; $8 reflects the author's situation at the time. 3. Cannot read liked posts (X connector has no liked-posts tool). 4. Cannot post on user's behalf; read-only only. 5. Not tested by this site; reproduction=not_tested.

Steps

  1. Set up three layered source groups

Create three source groups in Grok Bot that never mix: 1. Brief sources: 15 accounts plus a set of searches, picked from your own bookmarks. Scored on signal, relevance, freshness, and duplication. Purpose: stay informed. 2. Virality watchlist: 13 accounts (author's current count) studied for hooks, not news. Originals only, 5K+ views to count, starred at 10K. 3. Analytics: your own posts only, compared against your rolling baseline. Each group has its own metrics. Mixing them leads to taking news from accounts that are only good at going viral.

  2. Build memory and deduplication system

Create two persistent files for the bots to read and write: - seen.md: every link already reported, so nothing repeats. - open-source.csv: every repo found, with date, area, repo link, source post, and one line on why. Every Friday, re-score every source and drop what's gone stale or noisy, within fixed caps.

  3. Configure the two-bot split

Set up two Grok Bots with clear roles and timing: - X Brief: runs every morning at 8:19 AM ET and writes the brief. - X Researcher: digs overnight on whatever the brief flagged and writes a findings file. The morning run reads that file first. The second bot is the fact-checker. Author's example: the fake paper title "The End of Harness Engineering" showed up in the brief as a correction, not a headline.

  4. Define the phone brief format

Organize the brief in this order, built for phone reading: 1. The one thing: the single item that matters most today. 2. Drafts: post ideas that borrow that day's viral hooks, with the hook named. 3. What worked: originals from the watchlist at 5K+ views, starred at 10K. 4. The brief: the top 3 per theme. 5. Open source: new repos with links. 6. Bookmarks from the last 7 days.

  5. Set read-only rules and boundaries

Enforce these rules strictly: - Read-only on X: never post, reply, or like. Drafts are drafts. - Every number comes from a real post; if something can't be verified, say so. - A claim that only comes from someone's own post is labeled as theirs. - Money signals go to the Entrepreneurship Lead bot, not the brief. Boundaries: - CAN: read a fixed watch list and searches every morning; remember what it already showed you; catch renamed papers and recycled stories; tell you which hooks are working this week. - CANNOT: read posts you liked (X connector has no liked-posts tool); post for you; know anything it wasn't pointed at.
