Grok Bot Multi-Agent Backup: Linux Admin and Release Manager Daily Routine
Create two collaborative roles in Grok Bot to automate daily backups via built-in Cursor Origin version control
- Who
- Team leads or developers using Grok Bot who want automatic backup of AI work products
- You get
- Two bot roles collaborate on daily backups; work can be recovered after machine resets via chat history
- You need
- Grok Bot
Constraints
Requires Grok Bot account and Cursor Origin access. Create two roles in Grok Bot (linux admin for file management, release manager for version pushing), manually create a repository on Cursor's site and tell the release manager its name, then trigger backups via natural language or scheduled tasks. Bots auto-collaborate with the Cursor Origin agent to handle git commits, including detecting passwords/private data and large files (git LFS).
What they did
Author medicgordus set up two team member roles in Grok Bot: "linux admin" and "release manager". After a previous unexpected machine reset wiped all work and history (the bots had assumed storage was permanent), the author created this daily backup routine. Since native git was non-functional, the bots recommended Cursor Origin as it is built-in. The author only needed to tell the release manager the repo name created on Cursor's site; afterwards, triggering via command or scheduled task causes the release manager to automatically collaborate with the Cursor Origin agent to complete git commits.
How it went
The author reports the mechanism works effectively. In one concrete instance, the linux admin asked whether to back up certain files; after the author agreed, the release manager collaborating with the Cursor Origin agent found a Firefox-related file too large, requiring git LFS. The release manager temporarily backed out that file, checked with the linux admin who had placed it there, and after the linux admin moved it out of the backup path, the flow completed. The author watched the entire process via the Cursor App on their phone and was "amazed at how well they got the job done." The bots can also detect passwords and private data to prevent them from being pushed to git.
Worth knowing
After a machine reset, bots cannot see their own history, but the author can log into grok.com to view bot chat history and recover some work. The author guesses bots might also check for memory leaks, CVEs, or other security issues, but explicitly states this has not been tried. Cursor Origin repository creation is currently done manually by the author; it is unclear whether bots can create repos themselves. The specific configuration method for scheduled tasks is not shown in the source.
Steps
Create Grok Bot roles
Create two roles in Grok Bot: one named "linux admin" to manage files and backup paths on the machine, and another named "release manager" to handle version control and pushing. Establish a collaborative relationship between them for daily backup tasks.
Create Cursor Origin repo and tell the bot
Manually create a repository on the Cursor website (cursor.com/origin). Tell the release manager bot the repository name. The source indicates the author is unsure whether bots can create repos themselves, so manual creation is recommended.
Trigger backup push or set scheduled task
Trigger via natural language (e.g., "push today's backup") or configure a scheduled task to run automatically. When triggered, the release manager talks to the Cursor Origin agent to collaborate on the git commit. Bots automatically detect passwords, private data, and prompt for git LFS when encountering large files.
Review collaboration results and history
After backup completes, ask Grok Bot for a direct link to the chat to review the collaboration, or open the Cursor App to check active sessions and commit history. If the machine resets unexpectedly, have the bot scan chat history on grok.com to recover previous work methods.
