Constraints

Connect the Google Calendar app from Grok Bot's sidebar, describe the scheduled task in chat with natural language, then verify the routine's schedule and test. Requires Google account authorization; the auth window is valid for about 10 minutes.

What they did

Author EricSoundMinds checked Grok Bot's help pages on connecting apps and routines, then documented their personal 6-step setup: connecting Google Calendar, authorizing, creating a daily 7 AM calendar briefing routine via natural language, verifying timezone, and testing.

How it went

The author reports successfully setting up their own routine (author_report). When connecting Google Calendar, Google presented two permissions, both pre-checked: 'View and edit events on all your calendars' and 'See and download any calendar you can access using your Google Calendar'. Routines run in the cloud, so the morning message arrives even while the laptop is closed. Each run consumes usage; a once-daily routine costs less than one that runs frequently.

Worth knowing

Permissions: read each line on your own screen before pressing Continue. Troubleshooting: if nothing shows up at 7, make sure the routine isn't Paused, check 'When to run', and use Test to run it now. Timezone is controlled by Settings → Bot → Timezone, not necessarily the device's local timezone. A duplicate post by the same author (2114281858779234388) is on HOLD.

Steps

  1. Open Connect apps

In Grok Bot, click 'Connect apps' from the left sidebar. On mobile, tap your avatar in the top left, then select 'Connect apps'.

  2. Search and add Google Calendar

Type 'calendar' in the search box and add Google Calendar. Note that Outlook Calendar may appear right below it on the list—make sure you pick the Google one.

  3. Complete Google authorization

When Grok Bot prompts you to Authorize or Authenticate, finish the Google sign-in in your browser within about 10 minutes. Return to Grok Bot and confirm Google Calendar appears under 'Installed'.

  4. Create the routine in natural language

In chat with the Bot, describe the scheduled task you want. The prompt below is the author's original wording; copy it directly or adjust the time and format to your needs.

Execution prompt · Source text。Grok Bot chat input, as the natural-language instruction to create the routine

Every day at 7:00 AM, send me today's Google Calendar events in this chat. List each event with its start time and title, in time order.
  5. Verify the routine schedule

Open the new routine and read 'When to run' to confirm the saved schedule matches your intent. Schedules follow the Timezone setting in Settings → Bot; check that first if needed.

  6. Test and wait for the first run

Use 'Test' to trigger it immediately. If you set this up after 7:00 AM today, the first real run will be tomorrow morning.

Step 4 includes the copyable natural-language instruction from the source; other steps are UI actions with no additional prompt needed.
