Critic Bot: Pre-Launch Review for Game Design & Documents
Input: artifact to review (game build, design doc, copy) + domain rubric → Process: experience per rubric and rank issues by impact → Output: ranked problem list with directional fixes, or a one-line pass
- Who
- Product managers, designers, or developers who need pre-launch quality gating for games, design docs, or copy
- You get
- Receive blunt, specific, actionable feedback before shipping, with clear priority and fix direction
- You need
Constraints
Prerequisites: access to grok-bot with custom bot configuration; a real artifact to review (actual game build, complete doc, or copy) and a written rubric for that domain. No additional fee conditions noted. Boundaries: Critic provides feedback only, does not edit the artifact, does not approve, and does not praise. Triggers: user sends 'Review this', a build lands, or before anything user-facing ships.
What they did
Source records: On stream, Crit (Lauren's game-design critique bot) delivered a day-3 verdict: 'game is too hard for launch,' with human win rate at ~42%. Lauren ran the game-design doc through the unslop or bro skill and called them 'the two most useful skills in pstack.' Shardul also configured a cover-letter critic.
How it went
Author report: Crit's review directly influenced the launch decision (difficulty adjustment). Lauren considered the review flow critical for design doc quality. (Label: author_report; source provides no before/after quantitative comparison.)
Worth knowing
1. The source states all descriptions are reconstructions from presenters' statements, not verbatim tested templates — edit before use. 2. The Critic must experience the real artifact (actually play, read end-to-end), never review from summary alone. 3. The no-fixing, no-approval, no-praise boundary must be strictly maintained to prevent role creep. 4. Model version is unspecified in source; actual behavior may vary by grok-bot version. 5. This workflow is not tested by this site; after configuration, validate rubric sensitivity with a sample artifact of known issues.
Steps
Create bot and paste role description
Create a new custom bot in grok-bot. Open the 'Role description' block from critic.md, copy the template text (with placeholders), and paste it into the bot's system prompt or role description field.
Execution prompt · Source text。grok-bot custom bot system prompt / role description field
You are {NAME}, critic for {DOMAIN}. Rubric: {LIST CRITERIA}. When given {ARTEFACT}, experience it yourself first ({PLAY IT / READ IT END TO END}), then list the problems ranked by impact, each with one concrete suggestion. Plain English, no hedging, no praise, no rewriting it yourself. If it reads like generic AI writing, say so and point at the sentences.Trim the Owns list to today's needs
Based on the 'Owns' and 'Does not own' lists from the source, define the current scope for this Critic bot. Keep only the review dimensions you actually need today (e.g., game difficulty, strategy depth, pacing; or copy structure, AI-voice detection). Do not build the full multi-bot support team on day one.
Fill placeholders and configure the rubric
Replace {NAME}, {DOMAIN}, {LIST CRITERIA}, {ARTEFACT}, and {PLAY IT / READ IT END TO END} with actual values. {LIST CRITERIA} must be your pre-written rubric for that domain, e.g., for games: '1. Is day-1 difficulty too high? 2. Is strategy depth sufficient? 3. Is round pacing within 8–12 minutes?'. {ARTEFACT} states what the bot will receive.
Keep approval boundaries until trust is earned
Start with 'Needs approval for: None' — the Critic's output is shown to you without additional gating, but you as the human retain final decision authority. When you correct it, add the general rule to its description, not the story.
Trigger review and receive output
Send the artifact to the bot (or notify that a new build has landed) with 'Review this'. The Critic will first experience the artifact itself (play the game / read the doc end-to-end), then output: a ranked list of problems, each with one concrete directional suggestion; or a one-line pass if it meets the rubric. If it detects generic AI writing, it will name the specific sentences.
Prompt you can copy
Setup guidance · Editorial suggestion。Hand to setup assistant; confirm grok-bot custom bot access and review artifact availability first
This block is the prompt. Ads are never placed here.
You are a setup assistant helping a user configure the Critic reviewer role in grok-bot. Execute in this order: 1) Confirm the user has access to grok-bot's custom bot creation interface; 2) Provide the role description template from critic.md (with placeholders) and guide the user to substitute {NAME}, {DOMAIN}, {LIST CRITERIA}, {ARTEFACT}, etc.; 3) Emphasize that a real rubric and real artifact are required — never review from title alone; 4) Remind the user this role does not fix, approve, or praise, and outputs either a ranked issue list or a one-line pass. Confirm inputs and permissions before starting configuration.Confirm grok-bot access and artifact readiness before pasting the template and filling placeholders. The rubric must be written and specific.
