StudyMate DeepSeek Harness Learning Mode: Master a Subject with AI-Guided Plans, Lessons, and Projects
Install the DSH plugin → start a Learning Mode session → enter your subject or ask for direction → follow live-rendered lessons, exercises, and projects in the reader pane
- Who
- Learners who want structured, personalized study in math or computer science with AI-tailored explanations and hands-on projects
- You get
- A dependency-ordered roadmap of knowledge points, textbook-style lessons with illustrations, custom exercises and projects, with progress persisted and cross-subject memory reused across sessions
- You need
- DeepSeek
Constraints
Prerequisites: DeepSeek Harness (DSH) 0.1.7-alpha.1+ and Node.js 22.19+ or 24. The default workspace is ~/StudyMate, where all course files and memory are stored. First install the @yunmiao/studymate plugin; interact via DSH sessions, with the reader pane rendering courseware live. Exporting static pages requires additional React installation (npm i -g react react-dom). Cost conditions are unknown.
What they did
Author Miaotofu01 developed StudyMate, a DSH plugin and learning workflow for math and computer science. After installing @yunmiao/studymate, users start a Learning Mode session in DSH and trigger course creation with natural-language requests (e.g., "I want to learn C++ for competitions" or "I don't know what to learn, help me pick a direction"). The system organizes work across five roles—material collection, illustration, course design, explanation, and exercise evaluation—delegating to sub-agents when the host supports it, otherwise completing them sequentially. Each course produces a dependency-ordered roadmap of knowledge points labeled as concept, hands-on, or lab sessions. Courseware is rendered live in the DSH reader pane; progress and cross-subject memory are stored in the ~/StudyMate workspace.
How it went
Author report: the project started as a personal tool and gained community attention and stars; the current version works reasonably well, but the author acknowledges bloated documentation, excessive defensive code, and messy modules, and is manually reviewing and refactoring files. Versions 1.1.0+ no longer guarantee compatibility with the Codex/ChatGPT Work and Google Antigravity sides. The standalone Web runtime (FastAPI + Next.js) has been moved out of main to the branch web/0.7.0-beta. The engine was migrated from Python scripts to a TypeScript plugin.
Worth knowing
The staging mode has been removed; learning data is written directly to the workspace without an extra "ask where to save" step. Courseware is no longer pre-generated as HTML and must be viewed through the live reader pane; if you don't see course pages after installation, confirm you have switched to the reader pane. Exporting static pages requires globally installed React (npm i -g react react-dom) or pointing STUDYMATE_REACT_DIR to a React installation. The source does not state DSH service or model call costs. This site has not tested installation or runtime.
Steps
Install the StudyMate plugin
Run the install command for your platform in the terminal. Choose the web or desktop profile based on your DSH environment. After installation, the plugin registers with DSH.
Setup guidance · Source text。Terminal command; web profile installation
dsh plugin --profile web add @yunmiao/studymate
Setup guidance · Source text。Terminal command; desktop profile installation
dsh plugin --profile desktop add @yunmiao/studymate
(Optional) Update the plugin
If an older version is installed, run the update command to get the latest version. Use the profile matching your DSH environment.
Setup guidance · Source text。Terminal command; web profile update
dsh plugin --profile web update @yunmiao/studymate@latest
Setup guidance · Source text。Terminal command; desktop profile update
dsh plugin --profile desktop update @yunmiao/studymate@latest
Start a Learning Mode session and enter your request
In DSH, create a new session and select Learning Mode. If you already know the subject, enter the opening request directly; if not, enter the direction-exploration request and let the system guide you before deciding to start a course. Learning data is written directly into the configured workspace.

View lessons and answer questions in the reader pane
After installation, switch to the reader pane from the DSH sidebar. Courseware is rendered live by the reader, including formulas, illustrations, and exercises. You can read, answer, and search materials directly there.
(Optional) Export offline courseware
If you need an offline-readable copy of the courseware, run the export command. Output is generated under <workspace>/export/. This step requires React to be installed separately.
Setup guidance · Source text。Terminal command; export static pages to the workspace export directory
npx -y @yunmiao/studymate export
