Constraints

Requires a local DSH environment (target 0.2.1-rc.5) and Git; terminal access is needed. The plugin is registered from a local file path with no extra fees. If the desktop client restricts terminal-side plugin installation, use the in-app plugin manager to select the local package.

What they did

Author Jimesarrice packaged the State Interface character assets into a DSH client plugin named claude-pet-dsh. It renders a Q-style Claude desk pet via shell.overlay in the bottom-right of DSH Web/Desktop, listens to session/event and agent/error events, switches an 8×9 sprite-sheet animation based on turn/tool/approval/todo states, and displays task titles with completed/total progress in a bubble.

How it went

Author reports successful loading on the DSH web profile; the desktop profile requires a restart after installation. The plugin does not read conversation text, only session state, tool names, and todo titles from events.

Worth knowing

Target DSH version is 0.2.1-rc.5. If the host upgrades and changes the shell.overlay slot name, client.js apply() must be updated manually. This is an in-app overlay, not an OS-level transparent floating window. This site has not tested the installation; reproduction status is not_tested. Character art and sprites are from the State Interface project; this repo is an independent community project with no official affiliation with Anthropic.

Steps

  1. Clone the repository locally

Run git clone in a terminal to download the plugin code to a local directory.

Execution prompt · Source text。Terminal command line

    git clone https://github.com/Jimesarrice/claude-pet-dsh.git
  2. Register the local plugin package in DSH

Choose web or desktop profile and run plugin add in the DSH terminal, replacing <clone-dir> with the actual absolute path. If the desktop client restricts terminal installation, use DSH’s in-app plugin manager to select the local package or follow the client prompts.

  3. Restart DSH to load the plugin

After installation, restart DSH (or reload the web page / restart the desktop client) and wait for the plugin layer to load.

  4. Use and interact

On startup, the character appears at the bottom-right, 24 px from the edges. Drag to reposition; the position is persisted in browser localStorage. Click the character to toggle the bubble. Collapse hides only the bubble; Hide shrinks the character into the mini Clawd in the corner; click the mini Clawd to expand back to the full character and animation.

  5. Customize the character (optional)

Replace assets/spritesheet.webp to change the expanded character (Petdex-compatible 8×9, 192×208 cells); edit ROWS in client.js to remap states to rows/frames. Replace files under assets/svg/ and update the MINI map to change the minimized icons.
